Our History
As a young boy, my love for hunting began in the hardwood bottoms and swamps of South MS as I literally grew up in the outdoors while tagging along on the coattails of my father, Larry, and my grandfather, Ed Scott. At an early age, they instilled in me the values and dedication it took to be successful in the woods. Now the filming on the other hand, that love was started by mother, Gail Scott, and her love for videoing our annual family vacations hunting, fishing and just spending time in God's great outdoors. I will never forget her tagging along with my father on one of his many spring turkey hunts. She did not get a lot of footage of the bird coming in, but she did get him flopping in the road after the shot. We all thought this was the coolest thing! My mother would always have the camera rolling when we were in the outdoors and then we would all set around the television in the evening and watch. Kinda like we still do today, except now it might be a us setting around the television watching a big ol' whitetail coming through the hardwoods or maybe a big old eastern strutting in the MS river swamp. You might say it has kinda of came full circle. I am extremely grateful and proud of our heritage that has been passed down over the years.
The dream of filming hunts really started for me about twenty two years ago when I was just turning sixteen and had just got my drivers license. I saved up my money and purchased my first video camera - a brand spanking new Sony VHS. Yeah, I know....VHS, but, hey, to me it was state of the art! Still to this day, some of my fondest memories are of my buddies and I out in those MS hardwoods trying to film one of our deer or turkey hunts on public ground. Although the hunting was tough, we really didn't do to bad! Alright, maybe I am a little biased, and our video work may not have been ready for broadcast television, but it didn't take me long to realize that I loved to video hunts and that if the good Lord was willing some day I would do it at a higher level.
In 1992, I met my lovely wife Terisa and we were married shortly thereafter. Now for the record, Terisa was not a hunter at the time, and she probably didn't understand what would make a grown man get up at 4 AM to go set on the side of tree in the freezing cold for hours on end. However, as she witnessed the excitement on my face as each opening day grew near, she quickly recognized a deep passion I had for not only hunting big whitetails, but filming them as well. After much encouragement from her, I was off to the Midwest in pursuit of those giant whitetails. Dreams do come true!
Now over the years, I have literally lived and breathed big whitetails. Not only do I love to hunt them, I love to video them as well! As I got started, folks like David Blanton, Bill Jordan, and "Cuz" Strickland were my heroes! Over the years, I was able to capture some pretty cool whitetail footage on film, but I dreamed of the day I could video at a higher level. That day came in 2003 when I crossed paths with Mark Scroggins, executive producer of "The Fever" and "Gobblin Fever" television shows, while chasing longbeards in Pike County, IL. With our love for God's great outdoors and especially big whitetails in common, a close friendship developed between Mark and myself, and it wasn't long before Mark asked me that if I was able to capture something good on video if he could use it on his shows. Dreams do come true!
Over the last five years, I have literally been living a dream! I have been fortunate enough to chase Osceolas in Florida and big bull elk in the mountains of New Mexico, but my deepest passion still lies in videoing those giant whitetails! One of the biggest obstacles in capturing quality whitetail footage has always been in finding a way to support the camera while in the tree. In the early years before I met Mark, I had made several "homemade" camera arms in an attempt to improve my footage, and once I started filming for "The Fever" I was even more motivated to find a better camera support system. Over the last several years, I developed several prototypes with each new one improving the last. Then in December of 2007, the "3rd Arm" was born. With its strong rigid frame, one handed micro adjustments, and the ability to level your camera not only left and right but also up and down, the "3rd Arm" is the ultimate camera tree support on the market! No matter how crooked the tree, the "3rd Arm" allows you the leveling ability and support needed for that "perfect" spot that always has that "not so perfect" tree. Dreams do come true!
The 3rd Arm has been a longtime in the making and has been a labor of love. To those that have helped me along the way, I say thank you! I have been blessed from above with a beautiful family that has been very supportive over the years. I could not have done this without you! The "3rd Arm" was no doubt heaven sent! We do serve an awesome God! |
